    Nordic-Nutraceuticals is one of the first company`s within the Nordic countries to introduce a plant-based version of Vitamin D3. OmniVegan® D3 features 75 µg (3000 iu) Vitamin D3 per capsule. To further enhance the uptake of the vitamin, a phospholipid blend is added.

    Anyone who preferred to use a plant-based forms of vitamin D have traditionally had to take vitamin D2. This version of vitamin D is typically synthesized. Vitamin D2 also requires a higher dose than the D3 form to be effective. It has therefore been a mission to find a plant-based source of vitamin D3. One which is a more natural form and resembles the way in which the body absorbs vitamin D from sunlight.

    Lichen - the first plant-based vitamin D3 alternative

    Lichen consists of a fungus and an algae that cooperate in a form of symbiosis. The algae takes care of the production of sugar substances using CO2 and water as well as the energy of the sun. The fungus  gets nutrition from the algae, which it also helps protect. This gives them unique features such as survival in extreme climates and the ability to grow and accumulate useful nutrients, including vitamin D3. There are many different species of lichen, and in OmniVegan® D3 a specially selected wild-grown lichen is used, which contains higher concentration of vitamin D3.

    Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, therefore Sunflower Lecithin is added to ensure optimum bioavailability in OmniVegan® D3. Lecithin has a high contents of Phospholipids, which are important constituents of the body's cell membranes.
